Our challenges

Učenici 8.a i 8.d razreda su na satu engleskog jezika pisali o različitim izazovima s kojima su se susreli. Opisivali su svoje osjećaje, načine na koje su prevladali te izazove te lekcije koje su iz tih iskustava naučili.

Evo tih tekstova:

I was hiking on Velebit with my dad two years ago. At first I was relaxed because I
thought that everything would go as planned. We were hiking for a few hours. On the
way up we saw a bear. I was a little bit scared but the bear was just passing by. But
then another problem arose. Just as we have climbed to the top my dad saw a
snake. I didn’t see it and I almost stepped on it. My dad told me to stop moving and
I was really scared. Luckily, the snake ran away. Afterwards I watched my every step
because I was scared that it might happen again. In the end we climbed down the
mountain and everything was fine. I’ve learned that I should be more careful. I
haven’t changed as a person but now I’m more careful when I go hiking. My advice
to others would be to always watch where you’re going.

The challenge I faced was going on my first football game. It happened a few weeks
ago on a football field in Varaždin. I was very nervous but also excited at first. I had
to meet new people and try my best in the game. I was really nervous and I tried to
calm myself down and relax. My friend also helped me and made me laugh. After
that I felt way better. In the end we lost the game but I was still happy because we
played well. I’ve learned that I need to try new things and might like it in the end. It
has changed my perspective on trying out something new in life. To anyone that has
the problem I would say they need a good friend or a good mindset and just try it.
They can’t lose anything except the game but that isn’t as important as trying out a
new challenge and doing your best in it.

The challenge I faced was my guitar concert. It happened in June last year. It was in
a primary school in Varaždin. At first I was feeling fine and a little bit excited. Then I
became anxious. I started asking myself questions: What If I play a wrong chord?
What if I sing really badly? My voice became shaky and my hands too. I was so
nervous. I talked to my friends and they said they were scared too. We started
talking about it and then somehow the conversation turned into jokes. We realized
that the most important thing is to have fun and enjoy the concert. We stopped
caring about how well we would perform. When it was our turn we were really happy
and we did our best. The concert turned out to be not so scary after all. I’ve learned
that you can do anything if you put your mind to it and stop worrying. That’s the
advice I give to everybody and my future self.

When I was 12 I trained gymnastics. I went to a lot of competitions but I never
placed. My sister always placed and I was very jealous and sad. I cried after every
competition. After a few years of training gymnastics I decided I would stop. There
was a competition in a few weeks and I decided to go to that competition and after
it to stop training gymnastics. It happened in April 2023 in Čakovec. At first I was
really scared that I wouldn’t place in my last competition. I had to train really hard,
some days after the training I cried because my muscles hurt. After a lot of work I
finally felt confident and ready. My mum was always there to support me and I was
very thankful her for that. And then the day of the competition came. I was so scared
but when the competition started I was full of confidence. And in the end I won the
third place. From this experience I’ve learned that I should always believe in myself,
as I do right now. I would advise everyone to always believe in yourself and you will
achieve anything you want.

Two weeks ago I had my first football match with the older girls. The match was in
Zagreb and we went by bus. I was really scared and nervous because the girls were
older and better at football than me and I was also very scared of getting hurt
because the other team was very strong and aggressive. But some of the girls in my
team approached me and told me not to be scared. They made me feel better and I
wasn’t scared anymore. The match was amazing! The score was 1:1. I had the ball
and ran past the defender and I scored the winning goal. I was so happy and so were
the girls. From this experience I’ve learned that I don’t have to be scared of
something new. The advice I would give to others is that when you try out something
new you shouldn’t be scared but be confident.

My challenge was to win a gymnastics competition with my team. The competition
was in November in our school gym. I was really nervous because I didn’t want to
fall down in any discipline and I was mostly nervous about falling off the beam. I had
to stay calm because it’s harder to perform If I think about falling. I tried to do my
best and support my team. They supported me and that really helped me. In the end
we won the competition. Since we competed against a really good team I was
proud. The team that won the competition went to a regional competition. That
competition was last week and it was one of the best experiences I have ever had.
I’ve learned that we always have to try our best and one day something that we want
will happen. We can do anything if we really want.

My biggest challenge was to learn to snorkel. I was eleven when I learned to snorkel.
We always go to the seaside in the summer but three years ago it was very special
for me. My dad often goes snorkelling when we are on the beach. That time I wanted
to try to do it myself. I put the mask on and went in the water with my dad. He told
me to be relaxed and to breathe normally because when you breathe too much your
oxygen goes faster away. I put my head in the water to try it out but I was in such a
shock that I couldn’t breathe anymore from the mask. My dad took my head out to
control my breathing again and then he showed me how easy it was. Snorkelling
makes you feel happy especially when you see all those fish anf shells at the bottom
of the sea. After that I wanted to try it out for myself and I finally suceeded because
I was calm like my dad told me. Now whenever I’m on the beach I always go
snorkelling. My advice to others is to try new things and to overcome your fears
however hard it is to do the first step.

The challenge I will be writing is how I learned to ride a bike. I practised a lot in my
garden about eight years ago. I failed so many times and at first I was furious and
disappointed. I had to overcome many failings and many falls, so after a few falls I
was really mad. My mum and dad kept pushing me and when I finally learned to ride
a bike I was happy and proud of myself. This taught me to have to keep trying and I
would eventually suceed. It has changed me because now I always keep trying to
do my best. To those who try to face similar challenges I would suggest to keep
trying.

When I was twelve years od I had my first dance competition. My foot was injured
and I couldn’t dance well. I was nervous and scared that I wouldn’t be good enough.
At the same time I was also scared that my foot wouldn’t get worse. It was hard but
I tried to calm myself down. I kept telling myself that everything would be okay and
that it was normal to feel that way. My coach helped me and told me that I didn’t
have to be so scared. After everything that happened I was feeling proud of myself
for handling the situation so well. I’ve learned that it’s okay to be scared and that
every situation can teach you something. I would tell others not to worry so much
about things, because the less you worry the better you’ll handle the situation.

When I was five years old I was trying to learn how to ride my bike and my dad was
teaching me in the street. At first I felt very scared. At one moment he let me ride
the bike on my own but I was scared and didn’t know what to do. My dad was in front
of me and I crashed into him. We both got hurt. I hurt my leg but the following day it
was O.K. My dad was also injured. In this challenge I overcame my fear of riding a
bike on my own and my parents helped me in that. After that I felt relief that it was
over. From this experience I’ve learned that I need to be more careful and now I know
how to ride a bike. I would say to anyone that they need to be careful or they will hurt
themselves.

The challenge I had to face was passing the seventh grade with an excellent mark.
It happend in the last month of the school year in 2024. I was really nervous because
I knew I would need good grades to get in my dream high school. I had a lot of
homework so I had no time to rest and that’s why I was very tired and had no energy
to hang out with my friends. At first I studied almost every day and I found the perfect
solution to my studying problems. I started to write down everything important and
it helped me a lot. I didn’t get any negative grades so I was very happy. At the end I
got sick and I skipped a bunch of tests too, but it still helped me understand that all
I need is to work hard to overcome the hardest challenges. I passed with excellent
marks in the end, too. I would advise others not to give up and always work hard to
reach their dreams.
